Off Broadway Shows
Not every great theater production takes place on Broadway. There are many excellent plays produced off Broadway. Most have smaller budgets then their on Broadway counterparts, but quite often feature actors and actresses that are very talented and capable. Because the production costs are lower, it is possible to purchase tickets pretty inexpensively. This provides those with a smaller entertainment budget an opportunity to enjoy a New York play starring great actors and actresses without 'breaking the bank.' The tickets are typically cheaper than those for an on Broadway play.
Off Broadway shows are oftentimes a bit more diverse in their offerings. They may or may not be “commercial” or mainstream. This isn't always the case of course. There are no restrictions regarding what types of plays can be produced off Broadway. They can be about absolutely anything. However, sometimes they tend to be bit grittier and eclectic in their subject matter.
Individuals looking for a theater experience that isn't quite mainstream, should consider catching an off Broadway show. These productions tend to be quite good and are definitely worthy of consideration. If an individual is not able to get tickets for an on Broadway show, an off Broadway is a worthy alternative.
