A very large port of entry for travelers visiting New York (as well as the surrounding tri-state area) is Newark International Airport. Every year nearly 36 million passengers fly through Newark Airport. Newark International Airport is not really even in New York, but rather very close to it. It straddles between both the city of Newark and Elizabeth, New Jersey. It is very close to New York City, a quick 45 minute drive will get you into Midtown Manhattan (approximately 15 miles). Newark caters to both domestic as well as international flights, but it is mostly less crowded because of its large size and ability to handle a large amount of people. A wide range of airlines fly in and out of Newark, you can dial one of the numbers listed above to get more information, or to book a flight.

To get to Newark International Airport there are several options. Usually from the heart of New York City it takes 20 to 45 minutes by car. Be sure to plan on taking $10 in cash for tolls, you don’t want to get stuck with a ticket for running through a toll both without paying! The cheapest option is to take the airport shuttle into the city which costs about $14 one-way. Busses generally operate between 4am and 1am, and generally there is a new bus coming and departing every 15 minutes on the dot. Taxis are a little more expensive, usually costing between $45 and $60 excluding toll fees. Again, be sure to bring cash with you whenever you travel. For those desiring to travel in style there are multitudes of Limousine services located close by. You may also rent a car if you would like to see the city on your own (not recommended because parking is a headache! You really don’t need a car unless you are staying outside of the city.). The other option to get into the city is the AirTrain operating out of Newark. From there you can get to train stations servicing both Amtrak and the NJ Transit lines. Subways go nearly everywhere in NY and a combination of Trains and Taxis (within the city) are the most recommended modes of transportation.
